| - It should be noted that this is similar to the Multiverse, which contains completely separate worlds with different versions of Superman. But, for the most part, continuities are distinct from these alternate realities (though the line between them is blurry). For example, Earth-Tangent is an alternate universe with a drastically different Superman, but it's part of the Modern Age continuity - that is, the Modern Age Justice League crosses over to the alternate universe, making it part of the same continuous story.
- A continuity is a fictional universe or timeline that is characterized by recurring characters and settings and an internal consistency with regards to characterization and depicted events. G.I. Joe stories have been depicted in many comics and several animated series. Unlike Hasbro's other equal mega-franchise Transformers, G.I. Joe has more or less maintained a sort of continuation that stretches from the first series.
- The Hardy Boys franchise is generally split up into three separate continuities. The idea of separate continuities was first used in 1987, after Iola Morton was killed in a car bombing in Casefiles #1 Dead on Target but lived on in the Digest series (part of the Original Continuity). The third and current continuity was introduced in the April of 2005. In this the Undercover Brothers Continuity the Hardy boys work for American Teens Against Crime.

The third and current continuity was introduced in the April of 2005. In this the Undercover Brothers Continuity the Hardy boys work for American Teens Against Crime. The Original Continuity and Casefiles Continuity are usually thought of as being in the same "world" with the death of Iola directly following the events of the Original Continuity. Other than the odd contradiction, such as the van that the Hardys bought after Iola's death in the Casefiles, but own while Iola is still alive in the Digest series, these two continuities work fairly well together. Most of the time two of the three continuities fit together well (with the above mentioned fitting the best), but trying to fit all three together just causes inconsistency.
