European countries have had varying policies regarding women and military service. While some of the countries have always allowed women to participate in military activities, most began seeing the value of servicewomen during the First World War when they began losing unprecedented number servicemen. Most countries began allowing women to do clerical jobs, then drivers, and even large artillery operators in later years. In present time many of the European countries allow women to participate in full active duty, with few or no restrictions at all.
