  • France, officially the French Empire, is the world's largest compromising of Africa (except Egypt, Ethiosomalia, Kenya, and South Africa), Southeast Asia (except Thailand), continental Western Europe (except Germany and Italy), the Caribbean (except Jamaica and the Bahamas), Guyana, Southern Arabia, and numerous overseas islands in the Pacific and the Atlantic. It is considered one of the Big Three nations since the end of the Cold War, making it one of the world's sole superpowers. It is a Semi-Constitutional Monarchy and the only and possibly the last country in Europe to be considered. France is the world's largest exclusive economic zone, covering all of Europe, and its territories, with America and Russia behind it. In the ruins of what used to be Roman Gaul, the Franks, which were among the Germanic tribes who brought down ancient Rome, settled there. Under Clovis I, the whole region was united under his rule. Among his most noticable achievement was the conversion of his country to Christianity. Eventually, Gaul was renamed Francia (meaning land of the Franks). France played a major role on preventing Muslim expansion north of the Prynees. During the Middle Ages, France experienced Viking invasions, took part in the Crusades, and above all, survived the dilabolical Hundred Years' War with England. As the Renaissance lasted, figures like Henry IV, Louis XIII, Cardinals Richelieu and Mazarin, and Louis XIV helped bring France to a great power status. Under Louis XV's rule, however, his poor decisions caused France to go into shambles, setting the stage for the French Revolution. Louis XVI was the last absolute monarch of France, deposed by the revolutionaries July 14th, 1798. However, many European states deemed a Republican France as too dangerous to exist, thus beginning the French Revolutionary Wars, which in turn, led to the Napoleonic Wars. During the Revolutionary Wars, Napoleon's military successes helped him rise to fame across France. He became emperor in 1804, marking the start of the Napoleonic Wars. The final war, the War of the Fifth Coalition, forced Napoleon's enemies to surrender, allowing him to consolidate his power in Europe. Under him and his successors in a period known as Pax Francia, they expanded the empire and defeated numerous enemies. France was among the nations who participated in the three Great Wars. After the third one, France emerged as one of the world's three sole superpowers, other than America and Russia. Fearing France's colonial ambitions, America and Russia united against France in what was known as the Cold War. Eventually, under Charles X, the country improved relations with Russia and America, ending the Cold War. France is based upon the ideals of the Napoleonic Code the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, both which had a significant impact across Europe since the Napoleonic Wars. France is defined as liberal, secular, indivisable, democratic, and social by its constitution. France has the world's largest economy and is among one of the highly most developed countries ( by GDP, nominal GDP, and purchasing party). It has the world's highest military budget, the nation with the most nuclear weapons, the largest diplomatic corps, a foudning member of the International League, the European Union, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, one of the highest standards of living, one of the highest public education levels, and one of the highest life-expectacy levels. France is also the most visited country by tourists.
