Brinty was a young male mouse of Redwall Abbey. He was friends with Tiria Wildlough, Tribsy, and Girry. Living a life of peace, he experienced newfound inner courage when helping his friends to rescue a wounded Pandion Piketalon from Groffgut and his gang of water rats. He went slightly overboard, giving Groffgut quite a beating. Because of this, Brinty wanted to be a warrior; unfortunately, he never lived to become one. As the mouse was helping to force an intruding gannet out of Redwall's gates, Groffgut unexpectedly leapt up from the ditch and slashed Brinty down in revenge, killing him. He was soon avenged as the Skipper slew the rat.

Tiria and Leatho Shellhound later honored Brinty by casting a wood effigy of the mouse into the lake of Green Isle with flowers, a traditional otter custom for slain warriors whose bodies were lost in battle.
