In Yucatec Maya mythology, Itzamna was the name of an upper god and creator deity thought to be residing in the sky. Little is known about him, but scattered references are present in early-colonial Spanish reports (relaciones) and dictionaries. Twentieth-century Lacandon lore includes tales about a creator god (Nohochakyum or Hachakyum) who may be a late successor to Itzamna. In the pre-Spanish period, Itzamna, represented by the aged god D, was frequently depicted in books and in ceramic scenes derived from such books. The Aztec deity corresponding to Itzamna is Tonacatecuhtli.

- Itzamna is considered the founder of Mayan culture, a creator god and the patron of priests and scribes. Kinich Ahau, the sun god, is considered one of his aspects.
- Itzamna is the king of the Keschera Colony and the father of Ristar. A grizzly, stubbly leader, Itzamna may have overall power over the population but must still abide by the wishes of his people. Even so, it doesn't stop him approving funding for a new satellite 500,000 miles into space, despite suspicions that the decision wasn't voted for by the people. Itzamna and his wife speak to parliament via a video-link. One particular broadcast of his speech was interrupted by Siestar, who proceeded to replace the live viewing with a tape of Ristar and his terrible singing.

- Itzamna is the chief deity in the Mayan pantheon, being the lord of medicine and was worshipped as the moon deity and the bringer of the civilization. His appearance was a toothless old man with sunken cheeks and a very prominent nose. Despite his appearance, he was a very powerful and benevolent deity. It was possible he was fathered by the sun deity, since Itzamna acted as an all-sustainer in Mayan creation myths and intervened whenever it was necessary, which was a great contrast to the behavior of Hunab, another, much more aloof, creator deity.
