  • Instant Death decks are a combo deck type.
  • Instant Death is a rule used in the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks Creature of Havoc and Slaves of the Abyss, and in the Advanced Fighting Fantasy series. A similar, but more restricted rule is also found in Star Strider.
  • Equipping this to a character's Physical Attack Ring induces odds of instantly defeating an enemy.
  • In most games, attacks that inflict instant death do not display damage points when hit, even if the attack would have inflicted normal damage if instant death had not taken effect. In some games, indicators such as the word "Death" or the abbreviation "KO" may appear instead of damage points.
  • Instant Death is a status in Xenoblade Chronicles. It inflicts damage equal to the target's maximum HP, thereby killing or incapacitating the target. Enemies killed by Instant Death from either Reflection or self infliction do not drop Treasure Chests. Nebulae (excluding Unique Monsters) have an art which inflicts Instant Death upon themselves. The resulting explosion causes Blow-Down and another status to party members within its range. These arts can be disrupted by inflicting Sleep before they are capable of fully performing the art.
  • Instant Death is a button combo present in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. The button combo can instantly kill a target when used with a Battle rifle or Sniper Rifle, though it is widely considered the hardest button combo to pull off. The combo is executed by aiming at a target's face (the front of their head) and rapidly pressing R+R+Y+B or B+X+R. Note that if a player runs forward as they perform the combo, then their second shot will hit them in the back of their head, killing them rather than their opponent.

  • Instant Death is a status in Xenoblade Chronicles. It inflicts damage equal to the target's maximum HP, thereby killing or incapacitating the target. Enemies killed by Instant Death from either Reflection or self infliction do not drop Treasure Chests. Protection from this status can be obtained by using Sharla's Cure Bullet or Cure Round arts, or Divine Protect or Debuff Resist gems. Sharla's Shield Bullet does not give complete protection but can reduce the damage, leaving the target with HP up to equal to the amount of protection provided by the Shield, which prevents an immediate Knockout from Instant Death. The Instant Death status cannot bypass the effect of an Unbeatable Gem, and it is still possible to survive with 1 HP if an Unbeatable Gem's effect activates upon being hit with an Instant Death art or spike. Monado Shield will negate both the damage and the debuff of a Talent Art with Instant Death. Nebulae (excluding Unique Monsters) have an art which inflicts Instant Death upon themselves. The resulting explosion causes Blow-Down and another status to party members within its range. These arts can be disrupted by inflicting Sleep before they are capable of fully performing the art. Pods have a Hatching art which causes Instant Death to the pod and releases the monster that is inside the pod.

In some games, indicators such as the word "Death" or the abbreviation "KO" may appear instead of damage points. As with the use of curative and resurrection spells, such as Raise, instant death's effect is often reversed for the undead. In some games, using an instant death ability on the undead will fully heal it in the same way that using Raise would kill it, though there are some exceptions, such as the undead in Final Fantasy XII.

The combo is executed by aiming at a target's face (the front of their head) and rapidly pressing R+R+Y+B or B+X+R. When a player executes the button combo, a sequence of events occurs that can cause an instant kill. They fire a single shot, switch weapons, melee, and fire a second shot, killing the foe. The melee (B) is to be performed when the secondary weapon appears on-screen. R+R+Y+B is superior to B+X+R because it always does damage (because of the first shot) and it does not require a partially-empty magazine (as no reload is performed). Note that if a player runs forward as they perform the combo, then their second shot will hit them in the back of their head, killing them rather than their opponent.
