| - A baffle plate or isolation plate was a component of warp cores, damage to which could be potentially catastrophic. In 2266, Charlie Evans used his psycokinetic powers to remove a warped baffle plate on the survey vessel Antares, whose captain was attempting to warn the USS Enterprise of the danger that Charlie posed. Removing the baffle plate caused a warp core breach, destroying the ship with all hands lost. (TOS: "Charlie X" ) The baffle plate was among the items removed from the SS Santa Maria after it had crash landed on Orellius Minor in 2360. (DS9: "Paradise")

A warped or ruptured plate could cause a warp core breach, or flood parts of the ship with radiation. (TOS: "Charlie X" ) During the same year, Fleet Captain Pike suffered severe radiation poisoning, and a number of cadets killed, when exposed to delta rays on board a Class J training vessel, due to a ruptured baffle plate. (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I" ) The Boslic cargo vessel commanded by Jaheel nearly experienced a collapse in its fuel cells in 2369, during an attempt to forcibly remove the ship from Deep Space 9's mooring clamps. His actions caused his ship's isolation plate to buckle causing the main power core to rupture, threatening a possible collapse of the internal fuel cells. (DS9: "Babel") The baffle plate was among the items removed from the SS Santa Maria after it had crash landed on Orellius Minor in 2360. (DS9: "Paradise")

In 2266, Charles Evans used his telekinetic powers to remove the baffle plate on the USS Antares's Nerst generator, which caused the ship to explode. (TOS episode & novelization: Charlie X) Later that year, on board a J class training ship, the baffle plate ruptured. Because of the location of the blast doors - which was considered to be one of the design flaws in that type of ship - a good portion of the ship was flooded with delta radiation. Fleet Captain Christopher Pike entered the contaminated section and pulled out a number of the crew before suffering irreparable damage himself. (TOS episode: "The Menagerie, Part I"; TOS novel: Burning Dreams) In the 24th century, the baffle plate was one of the components removed from the SS Santa Maria after crash landing on Orellius Minor in 2360. (DS9 episode: "Paradise") Baffle plates were still part of Galaxy-class starships in the 24th century. In 2368 the USS Venture's Chief Engineer Charles H. Logan discovered a baffle plate malfunction on board the Venture, the ship subsequently docked at Luxor IV for repairs. (TNG novel: The Devil's Heart)
