- Maat lived in what became the Grand Duchy of Jeuno in a time when it was merely a fishing village. His rigorous training allowed him to master all forms of combat. By the dawn of the Crystal War Jeuno had grown substantially and Maat was a prominent figure in the nascent Duchy. Rather than staying to defend the city, however, he wandered the countryside as a freelance, joining the ranks of whatever army most impressed him. He was sometimes accompanied on the battlefield by Degenhard, his old friend and rival. After the war he apparently returned to Jeuno without incident.

- Maat, along with a companion star named Hiemdal, is part of a binary star system in Federation space, located several parsecs from Earth. The Federation starship USS Maat was named for this star when authorized for construction. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)
- The earliest surviving records indicating Maat is the norm for nature and society, in this world and the next, is recorded during the Old Kingdom in pyramid texts (ca. 2780-2250 BCE). Later, as a goddess in other traditions of the Egyptian pantheon, where most goddesses were paired with a male aspect, her masculine counterpart was Thoth and their attributes are the same. After the rise of Ra they were depicted together in the Solar Barque. As Thoth has been seen to represent the Logos of Plato, so Maat has been viewed as an expression of Divine Wisdom.
