The April 28-May 1, 2023 tornado outbreak was a significant storm complex that impacted the Southern Plains states in late April, 2023 and produced the deadliest tornado outbreak in recorded history. The states of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Kansas were impacted, with most tornadoes touching down between Austin, Texas and Oklahoma City. The EF5 tornado which impacted northeastern Texas in the evening of April 30 would prove to be the deadliest individual tornado in the United States since the Tupelo, Mississippi tornado of April 5, 1936. A high-end EF4 tornado was responsible for an additional 20 fatalities in Alexandria, Louisiana on May 1.
