Because of their scavenger-hunter roots, Adnerem culture was informed by their native traits. Semi-social and tribal, their clans ranged in size from five to twenty individuals which eventually translated to socioeconomic units known as steris. Consisting of five to one hundred members, the groups traditionally maintained sixty-four unrelated adults living within a single steri-house. Each steri-house was a two-storied disc-shaped building which spread heat across all rooms. There sterisi were fiercely loyal to one another and shared maintenance and house-keeping duties equally, holding no biases on the basis of gender or age. As the steri-house quartered many sterisi, it was divided into two areas: public rooms for guests and celebrations, and private sections that could only be occupied

  • Because of their scavenger-hunter roots, Adnerem culture was informed by their native traits. As the steri-house quartered many sterisi, it was divided into two areas: public rooms for guests and celebrations, and private sections that could only be occupied by a resident sterisi. Born into their individual steris, Adnerem were raised by care-giving sterisi before entering into an education-steris at the age of six. After receiving a broad learning experience, individuals were assessed at the age of fourteen and forced to chose a vocation. For ten years they would then train in that chosen field and pay back their steris for the cost of child-rearing. At the age of twenty-four, an Adnerem ceremonially left the steris and chose which steris to join as an adult. Most steri offered special incentives for their own sterisi to rejoin them, which resulted in roughly half of all Adnerem remaining with the steris they had been born into. Once the decision had been made, it was rare for an Adnerem to leave the chosen steris due to the fact that such a departure resulted in a forfeit of all assets associated with the abandoned steris and carried a slight stigma; although leaving was still seen as socially acceptable. Only Adnerem who had been promised far greater opportunity or status in another steris ever considered such a change. Systematically pragmatic, any Adnerem who sought greater wealth or status would start by improving their steris. By increasing the capital of their steris through trade with other steri, they could fulfill their self-interested goals while also elevating their peers. While some steri would employ another steris to take on jobs within their household, some would opt to engage in raid-wars. These small conflicts erupted between two or more steri and were often short-lived with violent battles that ended just short of total annihilation of the losing steris. Despite this small exception, society on Adner was largely non-violent and social discrimination was almost non-existent. While status and honors were bestowed upon an entire steris, not an individual, particularly wealthy Adnerem grew their nails to an extremely long length to show that they need not work. Female Adnerem often differentiated themselves from the males by growing their single patch of hair long and braiding it. The species generally wore clothing typical of many other humanoid species throughout the galaxy, with nudity acceptable only within the confines of one's own steri-house. Most Adnerem were cool and collected, having mastered their emotions and growing patient with life in the steri-house. Calm and dispassionate on the surface, Adnerem hid their emotions well. Deeply emotional, they were generally introverted and asocial and therefore seldom revealed their thoughts to outsiders. Public areas were often silent, as Adnerem became increasingly phobic of large groups and kept to themselves when out and about. Conversely, two Adnerem alone were highly conversant and would sometimes form sterika partnerships that were non-sexual when a pair became close. Only making up 10% of the population, these bonds were not romantic, simply functional. The longer the Adnerem interacted with the galactic community, the greater their technology became. While remaining separate from the galactic economy, they invested heavily in their own world by establishing vast centers of tourism on Adner and neighboring worlds. As hundreds of thousands flocked to the pleasure houses and casinos, the collective wealth of the steri grew astronomically.
