| - Among the village that made such great shinobi, there was a child by the name of Genji who showed great potential in mastering ninjutsu and he is a promising young talent. A child like him had not even surpassed twelve years of age and yet he fights on excellently compared to other Genin and maybe even Chūnin. A young man like him was so determine to bolster his skills improve by spending day and night on the training field and trying to improve himself constantly with hard work and training. That day was no different. He spent all day in the training ground improving his chakra control and training heavily on his earth release techniques as he wanted to ensure that he mastered the ones that he already learned. His will was unbreakable and his determination couldn't be weakened. One of those concerned by his training was his sensei. He wanted to ensure the efficiency of his student's training and he wished to test his skill. He thought about how he might be able to do so and he figured something out at long last. There was a friend that he was well-acquainted with and trusted. That friend was coming to Konoha for a visit. He thought that he might ask her to test out Genji's skills in battle so that he wouldn't be worried about his student and would make sure that his training haven't went to waste. Genji on the other hand was still in the training ground and he was working on his battle prowess and concentration. The wind breezes flew in the air going through his white hair strands which caused them to move with the breeze. His hair was white and soft like silk as he concentrated on his targets. He had made targets and set them up everywhere he even had targets in blind spots. He wanted to test his weaponry skills in training and how accurate his aim was. He memorized the placed of the targets including those in blind spots. He then proceeded to throw kunai at the targets. There were targets in blind spots where he had to use two kunai to deflect each other in order to land on the desired target. In the matter of three seconds, all the targets were hit with near perfect accuracy including those in the blind spots. Genji then landed on the ground as he had to jump to hit these targets. He then slowly stood admiring his skill in hitting all of the target with relative ease. "If I want to become the best, I need to train harder and improve my skills in battle. I will not weaken or get tired from training. If I want to reach my goal, I need to never stop training." these were the thoughts that swam in Genji's head, which shows how determined he is to become the best shinobi their is and the best there ever will be. He then went to drink some water and rest for five minutes in order to continue his training for that day. His sensei however, was waiting for his friend in order to greet her and tell her about his plans to test out his friend. His friend was Shinzui Iyoku. She was a woman from Kumogakure who had nineteen years old. She was a good friend of Genji's sensei and was out-going and in general a nice person. The reason why Genji's sensei thought that Shinzui is the best match-up for his student is because of her being a genius who became a Genin by the age of ten and was promoted to Chūnin about two years after. She learned Yin-Yang at the age of fifteen and she was no one to be messed with. She was coming to visit her old friend as they didn't see each other for a while. They wanted to catch up, he was going to ask her the favor of testing out Genji after they would sit down and chat a little. Having received the letter, Shinzui began packing some essentials for the trip to Konohagakure. Since crime was relatively low at the moment, she figured today was the best time to head over there to see her old friend. After packing up some of her things, she threw her bag over her shoulder and went for the run. She figured the distance to the village would be perfect to help work on her speed. Starting slow at first, Shinzui's stride became faster and faster, as if running itself felt like a breeze to her. Reaching her max running speed, she made her way towards Konoha. The steps that lead up to Kumo are long, which were perfect for her reflex tests as she would need to react quickly if she missed a step. Which, because she's a bit on the hyper side, did. But because she expected to, she reacted quickly, pushing her hands in front towards the next step and pushing herself back on her feet. After making it down the steps, Shinzui began the run southwest. It would be two days max for those who walked there, but she figured at her running speed, she could make it in a few hours if nothing got in her way. As she ran, she began looking through her surroundings. Despite her quick paced running, she could admire the nature around her, almost feeling in tune with it as it resonates with her yang energy. Feeling rejuvenated, she began to run faster. In four hours, she made a trip that would take a walking shinobi two days to make, having made her way to the Land of Fire, and Konohagakure. Letting out a gentle breath to recuperate, she walked towards the gates of Konohagakure. Once she was inside, she figured her friend would be at the training grounds, so after asking around a bit, she found her way there. Seeing her old friend, she noticed him observing a young Genin. Despite seeing that the shinobi was young, she could see he was very talented. Letting out a smile, she walked towards Genji's sensei. "Hey, you! Long time no see, huh?" Shinzui asked, leaning against the fence that separated the training ground. Genji's sensei was leaning on a tree lying on the ground as he watched his student practice his bukijutsu with great accuracy. Thoughts roamed his head about how this match up would go. He wasn't sure that it was a good idea as he knew that Shinzui was an excellent shinobi and he was almost sure that she would be able to beat Genji. "Is this the right choice? I'm afraid that Shinzui might get too excited an hurt Genji rather than benefit him. If she gets serious, the kid would be done for. Then again, she might keep her composure and I might get a better idea on how strong Genji actually is. His earth release improved at an alarming rate over the course of this year which surprises me greatly. He reached Jōnin level application in two jutsu as well as improved his academy level techniques. I haven't seen any Genin concerned with these techniques, they always go for the C and B ranked techniques and pile up as much of them as they could. Maybe this kid is different, maybe he will be someone great one day. Someone who would lead Konoha to glories." thought Genji's sensei as he was relaxing by the tree. Genji continued with his non stop training, but all of a sudden he paused his training and stood still. 'Is there something wrong?" asked his sensei who was surprised by the sudden halt in training. Genji closed his eyes and concentrated for five seconds. "Someone is coming, he is approaching with great speed and he doesn't seem to be slowing down. He is coming from that direction right towards us." said Genji as he was startled by how fast Shinzui was moving, he told his sensei pointing towards the direction where Shinzui was coming from. She then came and stood beside his sensei as she greeted him. Genji was surprised to see that she was a woman with such physical ability to run with that speed. He then noticed that she was talking to his sensei. "Shinzui! long time no see. Come sit here beside me I want to talk to you a bit and catch up." said Genji's sensei as he looked at his old friend and stood up to greet her. "Don't worry Genji, she is a friend of mine you can proceed with your training." he said with a cheerful look on his face which showed his happiness of seeing his old friend. He then sat down with Shinzui on the ground beside the tree. Genji went towards Shinzui and bowed in respect for his sensei's friend. He then excused himself to go back to training. Genji's sensei sat beside Shinzui under the tree as he talked in a quiet voice so that Genji wouldn't hear them. "Interesting boy, no?" he said while maintaining eye contact with Genji and his training. "He really is. I didn't have to look at him long to see he has great potential. So his name's Genji, huh? I think he has the ability to become an excellent shinobi." Shinzui replied in an equally quiet voice, sitting under the tree. As she observed Genji train, she took note of his bukijutsu training, noticing how accurate he is with his kunai and shuriken. "He's a marksman with his tools. He could probably strike a fly's wings off with a kunai if he concentrated enough." Shinzui remarked, impressed by Genji's skills. "So, what was it you wanted to talk to me about?" Shinzui asked, smelling the air as it blew through the tree. "Indeed, he seems to be very good in ninjutsu as well. I wanted to see you to catch up with you and to chat a bit about how your life has been going. But to be honest, that isn't the only reason. You are one of the geniuses in Kumo, I remember seeing your skill at a very young age and I was surprised by how you progressed at that age. Genji reminds me of you when it comes to fast learning. Although he might be a quiet boy, but I know you aren't as quiet." Genji's sensei joked around as he laughed with his old friend and made a few jokes reminding her of the times they spent together. It was a great experience to sit with his friend after such a long time. "Well, I guess you want to know why I called on you, the primary reason. I want you to fight with Genji so that I can approve that he is a skilled fighter and is able to hold his ground against someone of your calibre. So I would be thankful if you accepted my request. He is an interesting child and I think you would want to see him in combat as well, am I wrong?" he said. In his training, Genji thought of his fallen father. How much he missed him and how he wanted his father to see him now and see how he became fine Genin on his way to becoming the village's head ninja just as his father wished. Although he was emotionally affected, this wasn't shown on his face or even in his physical movement. He acted natural and didn't show any signs of being sad. "Father ... I wish you could see me now. I'm on my way to fulfilling your wish. You wanted me to be the best, I shall strive to be the best, I shall never back down or weaken against hardships. I shall never shed a tear, I will stay strong and keep my promise to you." thought Genji as he threw the Kunai with great accuracy. They made sound when they collided, but Genji felt like he was deaf. He couldn't hear anything but the thoughts in his head, despite being in the middle of training. After thinking of his father, his performance suddenly improved and he picked up the pace in his training. It seemed like thinking of his father motivated Genji. Looking back at Genji and how his skills were improving greatly, she nodded her head. "You're right. He needs someone to show his best to. He needs someone to battle, and I'll do it." Shinzui smiled, looking up at the trees and getting up. As she patted her dress down to get the leaves off, she walked up to the fence, carefully observing Genji's movements. She could feel an air of burden, but at the same time an air of motivation. Almost as if he was using that burden as a motivation to improve himself. She couldn't help but shed a tear, as if she could almost feel Genji's pain, but at the same time, she couldn't help but smile, seeing strength in someone who has obviously been through a lot. Wiping her eyes, she looked back at Genji's sensei and nodded with a smile. "It's time to give him the best training he's ever gotten." Smiling, Shenzui jumped over the fence in a single leap and walked across the training ground. "Genji, I would like to see your abilities firsthand. Therefore, I wish to fight you. The best training is against an opponent who can fight back. Judging by the way you hold yourself, you seem to train at one skill at a time, which would lead one to think your skills are limited. But because you train them so frequently, your proficiency in those skills makes you better than anyone else at them. My sensei once said "I fear not the man who has practiced ten thousand kicks, but the man who has practiced a kick ten thousand times". I, too, have few skills, but I practiced at them more than anything else. This could be a test of both of our abilities, to show what we must improve on to make ourselves stronger." As Shenzui smiled, she placed herself in a calm, but confident fighting stance, ready for Genji to put his all into the fight. She wanted to see a Genin who can shine above everyone else because he practiced at skills most people would leave behind for better skills. She saw some of herself in him, and she wanted to see that motivation in someone else. Genji stopped his training as he saw Shinzui talking to him. He heard her words and he was fond of the quote she said, the one taken from her master. He believed that it was true. He stood before her panting and wiping the sweat on hid forehead with his sleeve. After she finished her speech to him, he got fired up at the thought of battling her. Being competitive was a trait of Genji's. He stared Shinzui right in the eye as he felt connected to her somehow. The young woman took her stance and got ready for a fight. Genji said "You are right, mastering two jutsu to the fullest is more efficient than knowing twenty jutsu, but mastering none. My answer is yes, I accept your challenge. I wish to test my skill with someone of your calibre." said Genji. In normal circumstances, Genji would have refused the challenge as he would be confident in his abilities. however, this time he remembered his father that made him question his strength. Am I good enough? That was the question that swam in Genji's head. He wanted to know if he was strong enough and if he was on the right track to mastering earth release as well as reaching his goal of becoming the best and surpass everyone. That was a big goal and challenging a Jōnin calibre Kunoichi was no easy thing, but Genji was willing to compete with her as an assessment of his skill. He took a deep breath help it in and exhaled slowly closing his eyes, he then opened them and stared Shinzui right in the eye. He threw a Kunai upwards. The kunai started spinning high up in the air. When the kunai landed and its tip planted in the ground, Genji was no where to be found. When the kunai landed he had already disappeared. The Kunai was used as a distraction to take Shinzui's eye contact off him. As soon as Shinzui would look at the Kunai he used Body Flicker Technique in order to vitalize his legs with chakra, which should enhance his speed greatly for a temporary period of time. Before the Kunai hit the ground, he was already behind Shinzui using his great speed to get behind her. He softly put his hand on Shinzui's back and pushed her revealing a seal that was placed on her. The seal is activated by contact. This was one of Genji's methods of attacking, which is deceiving his opponent with simple yet effective visual tricks. Normally, Shinzui's vision would be drawn to the kunai for a second, Genji would use that second to execute that deadly combo. "'I see what he did. He distracted me just long enough to put a seal on my back by focusing my attention away from him and towards the kunai. Very impressive. I can't let him touch me again, or else it could easily go off. It's what got my sensei killed, and I'm not in the mood to repeat history.'" Shinzui thought to herself. Carefully eying Genji, she began a forward charge, letting her speed kick up. Once she was at max speed, she began strafing left and right, hoping to throw Genji off. As she began to get near him, she formed a unique hand seal; Both her hands formed an L with her index finger and thumb, with the hands pointing upwards and downwards. As she began focusing on where she wanted her attacks to hit, she began harnessing her Yin energy to create the paths. Once she got close enough for physical contact, she gave the paths Ying energy to finish the combo. As she let off a punch, several hundred took their place. As she distracted him with that, she once again used her speed to get behind him and created a shield out of Yang energy to prevent him from backing up. "'That's the best I can do. I can throw up one shield and that's about all I can do when trying to keep those strikes going. Definitely going back to the drawing board to improve on that once this is over.'" Shinzui thought to herself. She was almost tempted to look at the seal on her back, but she knew she couldn't take her gaze off Genji even for a second. She had to keep her eye on him at all times lest he gets behind her again. It seemed like Shinzui wasn't familiar with the seal, despite it being a common Chūnin level seal. This seal is placed by contact and it disappears once it is placed making it not visible. The seal can be triggered remotely using the tiger hand seal to make it explode. "It looks like she's trying to dictate the pace of the battle." thought Genji as he saw Shinzui moving towards him and attempting movements to throw him off. He noticed her making a unique hand seal with her hands. It was unusual as an attack came towards Genji, the attack looked devastating and he felt that Shinzui was behind him thanks to her chakra signature. Genji maintained his composure, it seemed like the attack hit Genji, but he revealed to have replaced his body with mud. Genji was a master of body replacement technique and he managed to apply body flicker to it in order to get out of attacks as fast as possible. Genji was no where to be found. He used Body Flicker Technique simultaneously with the body replacement technique that he used earlier. He was hiding behind a tree while leaning slightly in order to look at Shinzui while still maintaining stealth. He weaved the tiger hand seal as he molded chakra for his nest technique. He used Earth Release: Earth Flow River in order to convert the earth under Shinzui's feet into mud. This technique was mastered by Genji as he could form the mud in less than a second. He made an average sized puddle of mud under Shinzui's feet. As soon as Shinzui would step in the mud, he would harden the mud giving it cement effect. He then quickly formed the dragon hand seal as he molded chakra to create a mud dragon behind Shinzui almost three meters away from her. This dragon then fired mud balls that Genji hardened, he could harden then to a degree where it would kill Shinzui, but he choose to harden them just enough to cause bruises to her. These mud balls could be fired with the speed of bullets, but Genji slowed them down in order not to kill Shinzui. Although he decreased the deadliness of his combo, these two techniques were enough to cause big bruises and great pain to Shinzui. The mud wasn't in its hardest state, it still remained moist yet it still had some bit of solidification to it. Genji's sensei observed from his place as he was surprised how much Genji grew in one mere year. He mastered both of those techniques and managed to turn low-level techniques into lethal ones. Looking down at the ground, she noticed the mud. The moment she looked up, she saw a dragon firing mud balls at her. Once again utilizing her hundred fist technique, she began focusing on the mud balls. As she unleashed the attack, she charged the strikes with Lightning Release. As the strikes made contact with the mud balls, the electricity began traveling through the mud balls, taking advantage of what moisture was left within them, making its way towards the dragon. Once the electricity went through the dragon, the energy tore it apart. As the mud began to spread from the dragon bursting, Shinzui formed protective shields around her legs, hoping to prevent the mud from stopping her movements. As she began to charge through the mud, she began her full speed run towards Genji, still intent on keeping the offensive. Having been aware of his body flicker technique, she knew she was going to have to do something new. Once again, she performed her Hundred Fists attack at Genji, but choosing to spread it over a larger, three hundred sixty degree radius. This took up more chakra than it would normally as she's never done such a wide radius before, but she had to think of something, and improvisation was all she knew. Her sensei wasn't able to teach her everything due to the war cutting away from their training, so all she had with her was her ability to improvise on the fly. "Sensei, I'm not going to let what training you gave me be for naught. I'm going to show you everything I learned, everything I took to heart. This is the moment I had been waiting for. Someone who could test my abilities to their absolute limits." Shinzui thought to herself. As the attacks began spreading around the battlefield, she charged one side with Lightning Release and the other with Fire Release, turning them into electrical and fire spears, but nothing that would cause fatal damage. The worse it would cause is slight burns and bruises. Despite holding back, she used up quite a bit of chakra. She had never combined all three of her elements into one attack before. But she wasn't going to let that keep her from fighting. She was going to prove that she learned a lot since her sensei's death Genji saw Shinzui for her technique and attempting to surround him. "So she's going all out already?" he asked himself as here jutsu covered the 360 degree. "Now... this is going to need timing." he thought as he viewed her forming her attacks. Genji seemed to not worry about the attacks that surrounded him as he kept a close eye on each one using his supreme sensory skills to know their locations accurately. Genji noticed that Shinzui was spending too much chakra on her techniques, which will leave her dry off chakra in a short time as she is going for large scale attacks at an early stage in the battle. Genji's sensei noticed that "Now that is a big attack for a spare." he thought as he was surprised at Shinzui's action and decision to use such a large scale technique while combining lots of elements in it. Shinzui formed her attack and added her elements and natures to her technique, draining herself out of chakra at an alarming rate. As soon as she attempted the first strike, Genji smirked and made the one handed tiger hand seal, which lead to the explosion on the seal on Shinzui's back that will lead to her distraction and halting of the attack temporarily as it would cause ther distraction thanks to the pain and damage done by the explosion. This gave Genji time to react, it would give him at least twenty seconds considering that overcoming an explosion this big wouldn't be easy even for those with strong bodies, not to mention that it saved him from her attack as well as caused her to lose chakra forming the attack, which lead to her chakra going to waste on a move that wasn't completed. Genji had twenty seconds to finish this and unlike his opponent, he wouldn't go for a large scale attack that is chakra taxing. Instead he would simply use his two primary techniques which are Earth Release: Earth Flow River and Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet. The explosion would cause Shinzui to be distracted, thus maintaining her yang shield on her feet would be almost impossible. Not to mention that the explosion will lead her to fall on the ground. As soon as that would happen he would weave the tiger hand seal, which will lead to the earth underneath Shinzui to turn into mud which will lead to trapping her arms and legs as she is on the ground. All of that happened in five seconds at least. He had fifteen seconds. He hardened the mud that Shinzui was in to make it even harder than cement that lead to the trapping of her arms and legs. He then made the dragon hand seal, which lead to the forming of another mud dragon that would fire a giant mud ball at Shinzui that would cover her whole body barely leaving her face. He then hardened the mud in order to make it very hard and impossible to move in that would cause the restraining of Shinzui. Genji then used body flicker to get right in from of Shinzui who was restrained in the sculpture made by Genji, he then simply touched the sculpture with his hands about five times in different locations with great speed. He left five Explosive Seal on the sculpture, but he didn't trigger them. The seals were set to cover the radius of fifteen meters each one. Genji then jumped back a great distance away from Shinzui's location. "It's over. One wrong move and I will trigger the explosions, I won this." said Genji while keeping one of the primary rules of becoming a shinobi, which is never to let your guard down. Genji made sure that he didn't get cocky and leave himself open for attack. Genji's sensei observed from far while not believing how much his student grew. While having the upper hand in the battle, Genji still knew that Shinzui might have anything up her sleeves. He kept an eye on the area around him while concentrating to find if any chakra is formed anywhere around him while keeping an eye on Shinzui to trigger the seals if she does any wrong moves or attempts to escape. In severe pain from the explosion and from the mud encasing her body, Shinzui couldn't help but at least smile, in awe of Genji's skills. After letting out a good laugh, she felt a bit better about herself. "I guess they call this checkmate then, huh? You really have proven to be an excellent shinobi. I let my hyperness get the best of me. I just get so jittery a lot of the time, it takes over my ability to think. And it's definitely something I'm gonna have to work on. Plus. let's face it, I'm not meant to be a combatant like you are. I'm more confident in myself as a police unit than anything else. To be honest, the last time I've had a real battle was during my Chuunin exams. But, despite, you know being where I am now, I had fun! It really let me know the flaws in my combat. You've got a long road ahead of you, but with what you're capable of, it shouldn't take you much to walk through it." Still smiling, Shinzui bowed what little part of her head down that she could to notify she was defeated. Genji was surprised at the surrender of his unique foe. After that battle, he gained respect for Shinzui as he saw her as a very worthy opponent and someone who deserves his respect. The earth that was encasing Shinzui started to crumble to let her loose as he bowed in respect for his opponent. "You are someone not to be messed with. The reason for your defeat is you getting excited and trying to go all out in one attack without analyzing the situation and forgetting about the seal on your back that lead to the waste of your chakra, but in your defense if I didn't have that seal on your back I don't know how it would have ended. I learned that a simple technique can change the tide of the battle and I guess a simple seal did it for me this time. I look forward to facing you again sometime." Genji's sensei walked towards the two and helped Shinzui get up. As he helped her walk back to tend to her wounds caused by the explosion. "Good job, Genji. Not many can say that they beat Shinzui. Enjoy your victory for now, but don't let it make you cocky if it does it will be the end for you." he then walked away carrying Shinzui to get her first aid and to tend to her won't. "He's a special kid, Shinzui. I never thought he could pull this off against someone with your extraordinary talents. He did well today." whispered Genji's sensei while carrying Shinzui. Genji was very happy and proud with his accomplishment that day as he knew that Shinzui was a strong foe. He was honored as he knew that he was on the way to reach his goal as the Chūnin exams approached. This wouldn't slow him down as he would continue to work hard till the Chūnin exams arrive. This battle gave him confidence in his skills and style.
