  • Polistes dominula is an invasive species of paper wasp but isn't very aggressive unless defending a nest althoug they may sting any polistes or vespula species raised in captivity can even be hand fed and all polistes spieces flight patters happens with their legs hanging down in mid-flight.This species is yellow and black with a thin body and orange antennae with yellow legs. They dont swarm w hen they attack but maybe only a few wasps will go out to attack. Sometimes they are called umbrella wasps because of the way they make their nest with open cells facing down. They can make a nest in bushes metal or wood that can hold the nest. They have orange-black wings and a variety of face markings so indiviual wasps can be identified to avoid an attack or invasion, this can also be identifeid by scent as well. Polistes dominula can range from small to moderately large. Unlike vespula, dolichovespula, or vespa species there is no Caste, all female wasps can lay eggs. Dominula colonies can get extremely big (unlike many other polistes). By fall, a colony can reach 60 wasps or more.
