- Holloway was named after Confederate General Sterling "Pap" Price. He was born in Cedartown, Georgia in 1905. After attending the Georgia Military Academy in College Park, he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Holloway made his way through the Theater Guild to appear in the first joint venture of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Garrick Gaieties, a series of revues in the 1920s. With his light tenor voice, young Holloway made a foray into a professional singing career. He introduced the Rodgers and Hart standard "I'll Take Manhattan" in 1925, and in the 1926 edition of Garrick Gaities where he introduced their "Mountain Greenery" ("... where God paints the scenery").
- Holloway was the original voice actor for Winnie the Pooh. He provided the character's voice in the shorts Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), and Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968), as well as the family film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977). He also voiced Pooh in a 1970s Canadian Nabisco Golden Honeys cereal commercial, as well as the song "Winnie-the-Pooh for President", released in 1976. Holloway also lent his voice to characters in other Walt Disney movies, including: Holloway said that Winnie the Pooh was his favorite Walt Disney character.

He can be heard in the feature films Dumbo (as Mr. Stork), Bambi (as Flower the Skunk), The Three Caballeros (narrating "The Cold-Blooded Penguin"), Make Mine Music (narrating "Peter and the Wolf"), Alice in Wonderland (1951, as the Cheshire Cat), The Jungle Book (as Kaa the Snake), The Aristocats and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (as Winnie the Pooh). His voice is also in the Disney short films The Pelican and the Snipe, Lambert the Sheepish Lion, Susie the Little Blue Coupe, The Little House, Ben and Me, Goliath II, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, Man Monsters and Mysteries and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too.
