The 2002 Houston Texans season was the franchise's first-ever season and the city of Houston's first NFL season since the Houston Oilers left in 1997 to move to Tennessee to become the Titans. Head coach Dom Capers, who previously was head coach of the expansion Carolina Panthers when they debuted in 1995, led the Texans to a 4-12 record behind the play of first-ever draft pick and quarterback David Carr. The Texans offensive line was the worst in NFL history.
