  • Lowell Harland, Sr. was a mechanic at Teller-Morrow and the father of Lowell Harland, Jr It is stated that Harland was John Teller's favorite mechanic, and was the only man John trusted to work on/repair his bike. In November 1993, a week after John Teller died, it was widely believed that Lowell Sr. vanished and abandoned his family. Lowell Sr. had a history of drug problems and domestic issues, thus no one grew suspicious of his disappearance. It is revealed in the Season 1 episode "Old Bones" that Clay and Tig buried Lowell Sr. with the bodies of some Mayans killed during the SAMCRO-Mayan war of the early-90s. After the body is identified, Clay told Lowell Sr.'s junkie son Lowell Jr. that his father was simply caught in the crossfire and wasn't attacked personally. However Deputy Chief Hale and Agent Stahl informed Lowell Jr. that it seemed as though the club killed him, not the Mayans. This information resulted in Lowell Jr. relapse in Lodi. Clay traveled to Lodi and confronted Lowell Jr., where it was learned that there was more to the story than Clay was letting on, suggesting that they were involved in Lowell Sr.'s death. Clay admits the real reason he killed his father: Lowell Sr. was a "weak junkie rat" who abused Lowell Jr. and his mother. In Season 4, it is revealed that Piney was suspicious of Lowell Sr.'s disappearance a week after JT died, and wondered if both that and JT's death were connected through one key player: Clay. When Gemma told Jax the truth about Clay's role in his father's death, she told him that when Clay planned to kill John for the "good of the club" and to keep club in crime, Lowell Sr. became a casualty of the conflict. Clay manipulated Lowell Sr., possibly with money or a threat, to tamper with John's bike, ultimately causing his death on the I-580. Clay then took care of the Lowell Sr. problem by shooting him three times in the head, this preventing him from telling anyone and burying the secret, according to Gemma.
