In ye olden days methods for dealing with mite related problems were far simpler and direct. One of the most common methods was to douse infected skin with various harsh chemicals to drive the mites out and cleanse the skin. The patient would peel back clothes around the around where mites were attacking. This method was useful for targetting both mites on the skin and mites burrowed into the skin. The patient's mouth and nose were kept well away from the vapours produced by rhe methylated spirits. A medical practicioner, or a member of the patient's family, would pour methylated spirits over the affected area allowing for the chemical to dry. The affected skin may be washed clear of the chemical after a few minutes. If mite activity, either on the skin or in the skin, continued then more methylated spirits would be applied. This method of treating mite wounds was also applied using other chemicals when methylated spirits was not available.
