Byroth enzymes are chemical extracts found in certain plants located on remote planets near Zerg space. Before the Zerg conquered that part of the sector, it was used by Terran Confederacy researchers for enhancing Ghosts along with regular soldiers. The enzymes were found to increase natural healing by several fold at a cost of some higher cognitive functions. This was ideal for use in resocialized Marines; however, enemy spies sabotaged most facilities before research was compete enough for mass production.

  • Byroth enzymes are chemical extracts found in certain plants located on remote planets near Zerg space. Once the Zerg stumbled on remaining stockpiles, they began experimenting with it on themselves to see how strong they could get. Many strains did not survive the process with any noticeable improvements. Those that did displayed an increased resistance to most conventional damage. Some even had their regenerative abilities heightened to the point of ejecting bullets that have already penetrated their carapaces (Resident Evil - Retribution: Bad Rain). Despite these advantages, there was a small percentage of strains that went rampant after exposure (Firefly: The Pax). The rampancy was only tolerated until they became a threat to surrounding Hives. By then, the Zerg had these unruly swarms destroyed and kept the Byroth enzymes stored away for future experiments.
