| - GM: So I've been thinking about my philosophy of running the West March game, and I've decided I've made two notable errors in the last few sessions. I'm retconning some stuff to correct those errors. One retcon minorly goes in your favor, the other does not. First the bad news: death is not trivially avoidable in the West March. So Firefly is dead, or at least, her adventuring career is over. She's taken multiple permanent, crippling injuries. Admittedly, she can be healed with enough castings of Regeneration type spells, but it's either going to take money and time or a lot of money. On the somewhat good news: the goblin prisoner told you that they did explore the right hand cave branch. They sent a climber down ahead, who got attacked by something. He screamed in horrible pain briefly then stopped screaming, so the other goblins ran away and never came back. Armed with this new knowledge, you can go back on your decision to explore that branch of the cave. You can decide not to do it at all, or proceed in a different way at your option. So. What are you doing and what have you done? Wolfgang: Sounds like the rest of the cave is dangerous and can wait Kevin: Alas, poor Firefly. Minnizig: To be honest, it's only sensible. Beltarne: I'd still want to explore, but would want to heal up fully first Marik: I hate leaving something like that *behind* us. Marik: Who knows where it'd crawl? GM: Well, you did get that information from a bunch of wimpy, cowardly goblins. The climber probably stubbed his toe. Minnizig: Definitley resting before going poking around in its den, though. Minnizig: No point in NOT waiting another 30 minutes to get my FP back though! Wolfgang: "apparently it hasn't messed with the goblins and they've been here a bit Beltarne: And would probably proceed a little less lacksadaisically than last session. Minnizig: "It didn't come visit while I was here, anyways." Minnizig: "Or they probably would have thrown me to it and ran, the bastards." GM: Alright, so you wait another half hour until everyone is rested up, Thasos ties up the goblins... then you descend down the cave, is that the plan? Wolfgang: "Are we going to stay the night here? If not lets leave it be for now Beltarne: I'd prefer to rest and heal up as well GM: I've got Beltarne with 1 HP of damage taken. Marik: We should really not leave anything that dangerous behind. Beltarne: Sure, it was just one goblin, but screaming horribly is typically not a good sign Marik: I mean, what if it's unnatural? What if it gets out and becomes a blight on the land? Best to deal with it now. Minnizig: "Probably a particularly wimpy goblin." Wolfgang: "I'd also prefer to resolve the bgobbo situation first, we can't carry all their weapons with and and I don't want round two to be with us hurt and climbing back up Beltarne: "What if it has treasure?" Minnizig: "On the other hand, I don't want your freaky nature wizard friend finding this thing and enslaving it to destroy us all." Beltarne: "Won Wolfgang: "I'd like to be rid of that guy first and foremost" Beltarne: "Won't somebody please think of the treasure!" Marik: Shall we put it to a vote? Wolfgang: "Lets get rid of the greenies and stash their armor and stuff somewhere where they dwon't find it again, then kill the weird guy with the elemental Wolfgang: "Danger doesn't always mean treasure Beltarne: "A vote sounds wise" Marik: I say we empty out the cave, first. It worries me. Minnizig: "Hey, am I part of the vote?" Beltarne: "I agree, for various high minded safety reasons" Beltarne: "Sure!" Thasos: Shakes his head and points at the door, then at the symbols on the goblin shields. Wolfgang: "What if the whistle for the guard dog down there is behind the door?" Beltarne: "We can't get through the door" Ghazeb: "Ghazeb thinsk the clever gnome should vote. And he thinks the cave should be fully explored. Who of these knows what greats deeds we could do within." Wolfgang: "I'm more worried about a guy actively out to get us than something that's left the gobbos alone for days or more" Wolfgang: Shrugs, swings his meteor hammer a few times, and regards the door. Thasos: Shrugs, swings his meteor hammer a few times, and regards the door. GM: Ooops! Minnizig: "I think your silent friend there wants to go throught he door." Thasos: Nods. ** Marik shrugs. "The gnome gets a vote." ** Wolfgang: "Yah, it's magic with no magic key Wolfgang: "I bet the key is back by that wagon GM: What's the count? Thasos wants to leave well enough alone, Ghazeb wants to explore, so that's 1:1. Beltarne: "I'd like to go through the door as well, but how?" Marik: "I doubt it. The wagon had been there for weeks; the goblins ran the alchemist off recently." ** Wolfgang votes to leave it alone ** Marik: ((I think. The wagon HAD been there for weeks, right?)) Marik: Marik wants to explore, and Beltarne wants trea^w to explore. ** Beltarne votes to break some skulls here. ** GM: The goblins have been in the cave for a while. Minnizig: "If there were a way of opening the door, I'd love to explore it. I'm going to go slightly squirrelly trying to figure it out... but until then, we've got this thing downstairs and I would REALLY like to know what it was." GM: I get 4:2 in favor of exploring. ** Wolfgang grumbles ** GM: So, cutting to the chase, you're on the second platform, looking down at a 15' drop with a 15' cliff behind you. Not what? Wolfgang: "Allright, but I'm not leaving a bunch of goblins here to escape and stab me in the back GM: Oh, good point. What are you doing about that? ** Wolfgang fingers his axe meaningfully ** ** Marik looks over the goblins. "Take their weapons and armor and send 'em out into the wilderness." ** Beltarne: What about throwing their arms into the stream?" Minnizig: "... hobbled and with their hands tied behind their backs, right?" Marik: 'Course. Beltarne: "Works for me." Wolfgang: "We only had a deal with the one. Best kill the rest or they'll be back, mark my words" Marik: They might live, if they're lucky. Minnizig: "I approve then!" GM: You can pretty trivially herd the goblins out and send them on their way. GM: They head north up the Storm Pass. Marik: North is good! Marik: So. To the platform! GM: Totally. They have plans. Too bad you don't know them. GM: So. At the platform. Minnizig: Platform! Minnizig: Ghazeb is barfing. Wolfgang: Who has a light? Wolfgang: we should wait for him to not be barfing Beltarne: I do, on my holy symbol Wolfgang: include that in the rest time Beltarne: It was continual light, yes? GM: Yes, Continual Light. Minnizig: Yep. Minnizig: And did we rest up and recover FP? Marik: Yep. Minnizig: Excellent. Marik: "I'll stay up here while you lot climb down, to provide covering fire. Once you're all down, I'll head down m'self." Beltarne: So have Marik provide ranged overwatch and the rest of us climb down? ** Minnizig found the F5 macro key ** Wolfgang: "Since it's some horrible monster and not a trap, Beltarne and I should go first since we have shields ** Beltarne shrugs ** Beltarne: "Sounds good to me" Wolfgang: are we resting and letting the barf fest end? GM: He's not barfing right now. GM: Everyone is fully rested up. GM: Okay, people going down first can move about 2 hexes past the last cliff edge. GM: Everyone else can be on the top wherever they want to be Minnizig: I'm pretty good where I am actually. it's crowded. Beltarne: Thasos and Marik should probably switch places whispering to Beltarne, This is a tentacled cave fisher, a Elder Thing predator from the Far Realm. It has multiple long tentacles coated with a painful poison and it can spit the same quite some distance. It has a single eye that is worth a lot of money as a magical reagent. It is resistant to magic due to its otherworldly nature, and well armored. Don't say anything until I narrate it! GM: okay, just wrote War and Peace for Beltarne. Minnizig: Eheh. Narrator: After Wolfgang and Beltarne descend, they turn to the north and see a huge eyeball surrounded by a mass of long tentacles by the edge of the stream. It hisses and the tentacles whip out at them! GM: I think we're in combat. Beltarne: "Gah!" Beltarne: "Cave fisher! The tentacles are poisoned!" Ghazeb: "This one comes to aid with derring and dashing!" Ghazeb vaults past Thasos, using Acrobatics to land safely [3d6.skill(14)] => [1,4,5] = 10 vs (14) or less Success! by 4 Ghazeb: "Gah!" Marik: ### Beltarne: Step to the side, all out defense, double Beltarne: "And the eye is worth a lot, try not to damage it!" Thasos: Snorts, frantically shaking his head. Wolfgang: step, fast draw a hatchet, throw at the center of mass Wolfgang: -2 range, that's it? GM: Yep. Wolfgang: Fast-Draw (Axe/Mace) (15) [3d6.skill(15,0)] => [2,6,5] = 13 vs (15) or less Success! by 2 Includes: +1 from 'Combat Reflexes' Narrator: The monster's eye swivels and revolves through its torso, turning to face Wolfgang. Minnizig: "Ok, boy, I gotta see this now." ** Minnizig drops her backpack (Quick Release Backpack!) and scoots forward. ** Minnizig: Attempt to drop down! Minnizig: Actually. Minnizig: That'd be insane. Minnizig: Start CLIMBING down. I gots me some short legs. Minnizig: Climbing (11) [3d6.skill(11,0)] => 3d6.skill(11,0) whispering to Thasos, You recognize this monster. Minnizig: Climbing (11) [3d6.skill(11,0)] => [5,2,2] = 9 vs (11) or less Success! by 2 GM: Two rounds for Minnizig to get down that way. Cave Fisher: Spin around, then spray toxic spit over everyone. [3d6.skill(18,-3)] => [5,6,6] = 17 vs (15) or less Critical Failure! by 2 [B556] GM: This is somewhat anti-climatic. Narrator: Wolfgang's axe slams into the monster, spinning it slightly just as it sprays acid. The stream goes wide, spraying along the wall. Ghazeb: Vomit. Minnizig: Kevin just asploded, by the way. Marik: Did not. ** Minnizig points at Maptools. ** ** Thasos shoulders his way through his companions. He knows just what to do. ** Marik: Acrobatics to leap that and land safely? Marik: Acrobatics: [3d6.skill(14,0)] => [4,6,2] = 12 vs (14) or less Success! by 2 Marik: And fire while upside down in midair, twisting around to get a look at it. Marik: Because I *can*. Beltarne: Sweet Thasos: is it too late to make my dodge a dodge and drop? :P GM: Thasos can make an Acrobatics Dodge at -6 to jump over the stream. Thasos: ooh, that works for me Wolfgang: no blocks? Narrator: On the other side of the creek, the ground rises again to another ridgeline. A collection of surprised goblins are just cresting the ridge, and looking at you with surprise. Narrator: They're carrying shields marked with red eyes and druidic symbols.
