abstract
  • The United States presidential election of 2024 was the 60th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The Conservative nominee, Ted Cruz, won the election with his running mate, Sarah Palin. He beat Michelle Obama by a wide margin, with a much higher electoral vote, percentage and also amount of states carried. The political landscape since the 2020 presidential election had changed greatly. The GOP (Republicans) split after the failure of the 2020 election into three main groups: Progressive Conservatives, Patriots and Independents. The only party that made it through was Progressive Conservatives and went on to win its first election as a party with massive electoral success. The Progressive Conservatives was made up of defectors from the Democratic and Republican party. It tended to be more of a centre-right party with both Republican and Democrat ideologies making it in to the manifesto. Cruz and Palin were trailing behind Obama and Sanders very much all the way through the election campaign, but on election day, it swapped, Cruz and Palin won by a very large margin. This was put down to people wanting 'change' and the hatred that was still felt towards Clinton from the last two Democratic terms. Cruz and Palin went on to implement more Conservative policies, than their promised 'compassionate' populist policies. This later led to the disbandment of the Progressive Conservative party at the end of the presidential term and back into the Republicans. Later on after the 2024 election, the Patriot party finally merged back in to the Republicans. Obama and Sanders wanted to promote a '24/7 campaign' throughout the presidential term, and constantly campaigned against Cruz and Palin's new policies which were 'borderline Nazi' as they described them. Cruz and Palin announced they were retiring from politics close to the presidential election.
