| - El Guncannon fue un paso adelante del RX-75-4 Guntank; mientras el Guntank era más "tanque" que mobile suit, el Guncannon era un verdadero mobile suit con extremidades. Sin embargo, esto hizo que compartiera el Sistema de Bloque Núcleo (Core Block System) del Guntank, usando el mismo FF-X7 Core Fighter. Está basado en los datos del robot bipedal prototipo RXM-1. El primer Guncannon fue el prototipo RX-77-1A Guncannon A, el cual tenia una pobre movilidad debido a su pesada armadura. La segunda versión, el RX-77-2 Guncannon, corrigió ese problema. Como armas defensivas, se colocaron dos ametralladoras Vulcan de 60mm en su cabeza. Sin embargo, las armas primarias del Guncannon fueron los dos cañones de 240mm montados en sus hombros, los cuales fueron usados para el propósito del diseño del mobile suit: Apoyo de rango medio. El Guncannon fue el primer mobile suit usado por las fuerzas de la Federación Terrestre capaz de disparar un rifle de rayos. El Guncannon era menos movible, pero muy fuertemente blindado que su primo, el RX-78-2 Gundam. Desafortunadamente, la armadura extra no proveía protección adicional contra armas de rayos, y armas convencionales poderosas (tales como la Bazuca Gigante (Giant Bazooka) usada por algunos mobile suits de Zeon) son capaces de causar daño severo.
