Jonathan Tyler is a Green Party activist and academic. Tyler was the Ecology Party's first Parliamentary candidate, in the Walsall North by-election in 1976, at a time when he was a transport lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He would later go on to stand as a candidate in local elections. He was also the Ecology Party's chairman in the 1970s. During the 1980s he was associated with attempts by the 'Maingreen' group to streamline the Green Party's internal workings. He subsequently left the Green Party, but rejoined some years later.
