Flinch joined the Clint City police, he dreamt of adventures. So feeling disappointed, he decided to join the Sentinel. Unfortunately he was so good at typing up reports that he was bundled off to deal with the clan's paperwork. Until, that is, he got so wound up that he smashed up the clan HQ, making Copper realize it might be time he sent him off for some real action.

  • Flinching is when you fly in the air and fall back to the ground in the Smash Bros. games. Most attacks have flinching. The only time you cannot fl inch from certain attacks is if you use a flinch resistance sticker such as The Boss and Mother Brain (the two highest flinch resistance stickers, look to use those) in The Subspace Emissary. Primids also flinch from attacks. The only Primids that don't flinch are Metal Primids. Metal characters unlike Metal Primids flinch from attacks. You can always stop yourself after you are in the air by pressing a button such as the jump or attack button.
  • Flinch is an upcoming (2017) album by Perihelion. It will be their first album, after their two EPs on Internal Recordings. It is due to be released May 22nd. On March 30th, the title of the album and track listing were revealed, and it has also been confirmed that Flinch will follow a story connected to the EPs. Further details about the story are going to be revealed through April. The running time is 33:58.
  • Flinch is a mobility debuff in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Flinch causes those affected by it to suddenly freeze up. It will interrupt the casting of Battle Arts. Its effect is similar to Stun, but lasts much shorter. In addition to being inflicted by Arts, Flinch can be inflicted when an enemy initiates battle with the party. Being higher level than the enemy can reduce the chance of being Flinched. Skells are immune to this manner of Flinch, and players cannot Flinch if swimming.
  • In the original Super Smash Bros., hitstun was extremely high. This meant that this game had the most extreme and arguably best combos in the series, allowing almost every character to have a 0-death combo. In Melee, hitstun was lowered slightly, but wasn't lowered so much that it didn't allow for any combos, because it still allowed for many, such as the Ken combo. The majority of characters have some combos, but 0-deaths are rare (and those that exist require extremely quick fingers and lots of technical skill to utilize). The Top, High, and Middle tiers all operated mostly on combo ability.

  • A flinch is the reflex all characters make when their current action is interrupted by an attack. The interrupted action is replaced with a short animation of being hit. The knockback dealt affects how strong the flinch is - weak attacks incur only a few frames of flinching, while stronger ones can deal about three times as much (and for some characters, even more if the characters are buried), but those strong enough to cause tumbling skip the flinch animation altogether. As a result, attacks that do not cause any knockback will not cause flinching, and neither will attacks that deal no damage.

Though he is powerful, Flinch is very paranoid even afraid of many people.

As flinching is directly related to knockback received, increasing weight through a Super Mushroom, or using a move with knockback resistance will also make it more difficult to flinch. Flinching while charging an attack or special move will cause the charge to be lost, regardless of whether any charge had been saved previously. Flinches can make characters vulnerable to combos, and the lag from them can sometimes guarantee a follow-up with a stronger attack or a grab. A prime example is the jab grab (also known as jab reset) in Super Smash Flash 2, although Captain Falcon can do a similar technique in SSF2, or the jab-to-up smash combo that works with Fox in the same game. Flinching does not strictly apply to characters. Starfy, a Assist Trophy, will flinch when attacked. Master Hand and Crazy Hand, both bosses in Super Smash Flash, also flinch when attacked.

The majority of characters have some combos, but 0-deaths are rare (and those that exist require extremely quick fingers and lots of technical skill to utilize). The Top, High, and Middle tiers all operated mostly on combo ability. In Brawl, hitstun was severely lowered, something that the game is often criticized for by pro Smashers. The opponent suffers very little stun after being hit, and air dodging decreases it even further. Thus, the game has hardly any real combos. Some exceptions are Peach, Sheik, Kirby, and Meta Knight, who all have fast enough moves (or a select few, in Peach's case) to combo fairly well. Notable combos include Peach's Dair to Uair tactics, Sheik's Forward Tilt Lock, Meta Knight's Uair chaining, and Kirby's Forward Throw combos. However, these can be DI'd out of with near perfect SDI, and the combos rarely exceed two or three hits. For the Wii U/3DS edition, Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that occasionally large characters, such as Bowser, will not flinch from small blows, allowing them to charge up attacks even while being attacked.
