The dwarven shield "Rolf's Saviour" is an artifact in ADOM. It is a decent shield that grants resistance to fire, cold and poison. If the shield is wielded with Rolf's Companion, it boosts the to-hit and damage of the axe by +10 each... but only if the PC wields the axe in their left hand and the shield in the right. Whilst the shield is not always generated even for PCs that satisfy a particular requirement, it cannot be obtained in any other way either; thus giving the artifact the confusing status of being 'guaranteed' even though most PCs will never see it.

| - In terms of defence, Rolf's Saviour is better than most medium crystal or eternium shields; but not usually as great as large or tower shields made of eternium or crystal, which can be found in slightly greater abundance. Its resistances are nice to have, but are easy enough to gain without wearing the shield.

| - It is possible to obtain Rolf's Saviour as the reward for Thrundarr's Fourth Quest; but not guaranteed.
The factors that influence the likelihood of getting the shield are not yet fully understood by the community. It is claimed that being very lawful and/or being a dwarf increases the chance of receiving the artifact ; though even lawful dwarves sometimes won't receive it. Apparently there is also involved some requirment of charisma so equiping charisma boosting items and/or drinking potions of boost charisma is highly recommended.
