Their first win was at the 1988 . They went on to win the bronze medal at the 1989 , silver medals at the 1991 and 1992 European Championships, and the silver medal at the . They retired from amateur competition after the Winter Olympics. Bechke and Petrov competed for several years as professionals. They won the World Professional Championships in 1996, as well as a number of other professional competitions in the mid- and late-1990s. They placed second at their last World Professional Championships, in 1999. Bechke and Petrov were married in 1990, but divorced in 1995. They continued to skate together after their divorce, however. They toured with for seven years (1994-2000), and also coached together in Virginia. Bechke retired from skating after the 1999-2000 season, while Petrov continued to skate. She has remarried and started a family with husband Wayne Ellis. Their son was born in 2002. As of 2009, she is a coach in North Carolina.
