A big change for version 8 is that the Notes client is based on the Eclipse framework ; it was originally an open-source Java development tool of IBM. You can still use the 'basic' 8 client developped in C/C++ langages but without Java plugins... Eclipse's plug-in system is used to extend the client or makes it run on different operating systems. The Eclipse Rich Client Platform supports Mac OS X and HP-UX in addition to these, and theoretically any OS with a Java Virtual Machine.
