  • A safety cage was a device that provided an enclosed compartment made of some transparent material that allowed individuals to be transferred from the hangar bay of a starship to the main segment of the vessel. They were conveyed by a hoist. Victory-class Star Destroyers of the Corporate Sector Authority were known to employ this device. On one occasion, Han Solo would snare a safety cage on the forward mandibles of the Millennium Falcon to take Odumin and Fiolla hostage after the Corporate Sector had attempted to seize his ship and imprison him. The host destroyer, unable to fire upon the smuggler vessel for fear of killing the two CSA officials, agreed to negotiate with Solo, which resulted in favorable terms for the Corellian.
