The Essers are a dynasty of Thyrsus Proximi originating in Germany during the reign of Constantine. Their Blessing Arcana of Life, Death and Spirit grant them various blessings related to healing, exorcism and the manipulation of souls, which they traditionally enact through literal or metaphorical eating and drinking. Their dynastic curse is gruesome: if an Esser loses their soul, they can never permanently replace it, and will eventually "digest" any souls they swallow in the attempt. A Beast's Horror takes longer to digest than a normal soul, ameliorating the effects of this curse.

One member of the family, Emily Esser, became a Hero after the mage she was working with was corrupted by one of the Begotten. She now hunts Beasts not only for their souls but because she believes they corrupt everything around them.
