Luggabeasts were a non-sentient, quadruped species that lived in the galaxy. They are found on frontier worlds, their masks are fused permanently onto their faces, and mechanical invasive systems enhance their durability and working capabilities to well beyond their natural abilities. They do not require food or water, as nutrients are fed directly into them via wires. It is unknown if they defecate or urinate, or how they reproduce. In the decades following the Battle of Endor, luggabeasts could be found on the desert world of Jakku, where the Teedo population used the beasts for scavenging. To help locate droids and other valuables, the Teedos gave the creatures cybernetic implants such as armor or optical instruments. At the time of the Cold war, a Teedo and his luggabeast captured BB-8
