  • The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a Japanese sports coupĂ© based on the Nissan Skyline range. Dubbed "Godzilla" by Wheels magazine in Australia when released there in 1989, it was rated by many motoring magazines, as providing performance and handling similar to that of European icons like the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari Testarossa, but at a considerably lower price. Since the Skyline GT-R became a popular car for street racing in Japan, it has led to countless appearances in video games, beginning with its debut in 1994 for the SNES game Zero 4 Champ R and most notably the Gran Turismo series, and in Need for Speed Underground as well as the occasional appearances in feature films, anime, and manga.
  • The Nissan Skyline is a two-door sports car available in Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition and Midnight Club: Los Angeles.
  • Iterations R30 to R34 of the Skyline are still popular tuner cars for Japanese car enthusiasts from the 1980s to today, especially with available features such as straight-6 engines, turbochargers, and the high-performance GT-R trim.[1] While not distributed in the United States, the Skyline's prominence in video games, movies and magazines resulted in many such cars being imported there from 1999 to late 2005, after Motorex petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to allow 1990-1999 GT-Rs and GTSs to be imported, at the condition that they were modified to meet United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
  • The Nissan Skyline is based on the actual production model. This is the 1990 GT-R R32 version of the Nissan Skyline, designed by Alec Tam. The Hot wheels casting portrays a racing variation of the R32 with the rear seats removed and with a Super GT inspired bodykit. The Nissan R32 was the first GT-R variation of the skyline manufactured since the 2000GT-R in 1973. The R32 lead to the R34 Nissan Skyline, which in its time was the most technologically advanced car in the world.

The Skyline eventually discarded the "R" code completely, in favor of a new code, the "V". The V-series Skyline bear a resemble to the Nissan 350Z, right down to having a V35 Skyline 350GT equipped with the same powerplant as the 350Z (i.e. a VQ35DE, a 3.5-liter DOHC V6). These Skylines are later badged as the Infiniti G series in the United States. Several variants of the Nissan Skyline have appeared since the first Gran Turismo game.
