After gaining "Frank Sloan"'s trust, he gained access to the private room. After "Sloan"'s arrest, Woody turned states evidence and was a witness for the prosecution (in return for a suspended sentence and three years probation). He provided convincing testimony at Bains' trial concerning the gambling activities of Jessie Bains, Otto Lipschitz and Gene Bamboni. He was then seen dressed in expensive but old, ill-fitting clothes indicating that he had been well-off once but no longer. He received a letter from "William Cole" 753 Third St. offering him a business. Roberts fell for it and responded to the letter. He came to to room 108 of the Snuggler's Inn and was killed by Bains with a hit behind his head, when he escaped from jail. His body was put in the trunk of his car and parked in the old warehouse district. He was found by Mario Gelepsi who called Bonds to investigate, and was collected by Coroner Felix Herman.
