He tried to hold back Barnes from entering steerage to look for Miss Watson. Steerage was off-limits for non-steerage passengers. Eventually Second Officer Lightoller let him through. After Barnes was gone, Lightoller ended with the advice of only blocking the way for people who tried to get out of steerage. That Sunday evening, the ship is sinking. Stewardess Desmond ordes all Second Class passengers to go to the Second Class section of the Boat Deck, but Seaman Scott has another idea: the passengers can go to A Deck and board the lifeboats from the windows of the First Class Promenade.
