- Technical Sergeant was a rank within the Republic Army. A non-commissioned officer rank, it was used to recognize and designate those soldiers who possessed technical expertise, either from prior experience or through training within the Army. The role of technical sergeants was wide-ranging, from technicians responsible for the maintenance and deployment of starships, vehicles and droids, to the operation of crew-served weaponry and armored fighting vehicles. While they were considered NCOs and thus able to command lower-ranking soldiers in the field when circumstances dictated, holders of this rank typically only commanded a single vehicle, or worked as supervisors within a motor pool or military repair shop.
