Burwinkel plays a consistent role as the head police officer throughout this book. He is an example of the "good cop." He is introduced fairly early in the book and remains to the end. At one point, after Fabrizius' murder, he questions Obuch and wonders if he may indeed be the murderer. Burwinkel all around is a likable guy who genuinly wants to solve the two murders of Tamara and Fabrizius.
