| - Baufort Castle is the central location of the Johan And Peewit comic book story "The War Of The Seven Springs" and its cartoon show adaptation "The Haunted Castle". It is located on a land that has been kept fertile by seven springs. However, Aldebert Baufort made a foolish wish to have the seven springs produce wine instead of water because he was a drunkard, and Sara the witch granted him that wish, only to later curse the springs to produce neither wine nor water when Aldebert tried to force her to restore the springs. Because of the drought, the people moved out of the castle, and when Aldebert died, his ancestors refused to let him rest with them, having him forever haunt his own castle until the seven springs are restored and the rightful heir of the Baufort family can be found.

At the time of the story, Johan and Peewit entered the castle to seek shelter from the rainstorm when they encountered the ghost of Aldebert Baufort, who told his visitors what had happened to the land around his castle. The two adventurers sought out Rachel, a sorceress to whom Sara had passed on her magical abilities, in order to help restore the springs. Although she was unable to help, her friend Papa Smurf gave Johan and Peewit the assistance they needed by giving them a magical divining rod that would cause the seven springs to produce water once again. With that part of the mission complete, the second part, which was finding the rightful heir of the Baufort family that has the family seal, proved to be difficult as there were many Baufort descendants claiming to be the one who had rightful ownership of the castle. However, Johan and Peewit soon found out that John Baufort was the one who owned the family seal, which upon hearing made the other Bauforts desire to get their hands on the seal before John could claim the castle as his own. With the help of Aldebert's ghost, the two adventurers escaped the castle to head for Besdorf in order to contact John and to show him the imprint of the family seal, only for some of the Bauforts to reach him first and try convincing him that Johan and Peewit were traitors. The two adventurers proved otherwise and thus convinced John to retake his family inheritance with the help of his army, though it took another appearance of Aldebert's ghost to get the other Bauforts to surrender. With John as the rightful ruler of Baufort Castle, Aldebert was able to join his ancestors in eternal rest. The castle also appears in the cartoon show adaptation "The Haunted Castle", though in that version of the story it is the De Baufort Castle, and its springs were dried up with no mention of them ever being made to produce wine due to American censorship prohibiting the display of alcoholic consumption in Saturday morning children's programming.
