(Star Trek Star Charts) In Orion Press continuity, the Epsilon stations weren't limited to the Federation/Klingon border but surrounded a 100-light-year radius of the center of the Federation. There were 12 in service by 2286 and 24 by 2295. (Orion Press: Klingons!, "The Cost of Freedom", Insanity's Child) Epsilon 1 was the station nearest to the Romulan Neutral Zone. (Orion Press: "The Price of Peace") Janice Rand was assigned to Epsilon 2 after the Serenidad crisis in the 2270s. (Orion Press: Chekov's Enterprise) Epsilon 3 and Epsilon 4 are two stations nearest to the Organian Treaty Zone. In 2275, both were destroyed by the Klngon ship Korvus. (Orion Press: The Daystrom Project) In April, 2288, Epsilon 3 advised USS Avenger of a group of Klingon vessels paralleling Avenger 's patrol group, but on the Klingon side of the border. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Border Skirmish") Commander Kevin Seal commanded Epsilon 8 from 2269 to 2278. Cartographic Probe 712 reported to this station when it contacted an inhabited world in 2273. {Orion Press: "The South of Death", Klingons!) Epsilon 9, and its officers and crew, was destroyed by V'Ger while the latter was en route to Earth. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture) Epsilon 18 was one of the outlying communications relays in the Federation. (Orion Press: Insanity's Child)
