Wallace. * Henry A. Wallace wins Massachusetts and Iowa during the United States presidential election. Harry S. Truman wins the Presidency by narrowly taking Illinois' 28 electoral votes, giving him a total of 277 electoral votes. 1949 * Alfred Kinsey publishes Sexual Behavior in the Human Female. 1950 * Senator Joseph McCarthy makes a speech in Wheeling, West Virginia claiming he has a list of members of the Communist Party in the State Department with intent to bring Communism to America. He also claims that there are "sexual perverts" that wish to recruit children into their lifestyle. 1951 * The Society for Human Rights sets up a political think tank in Washington D.C. called the Human Rights Campaign. The Society for Human Rights continues its work as an educational institution. 1954 * The Family Values Act was signed into law by Dwight Eisenhower. 1955 * Illinois becomes the first State in the Union to decriminalize sodomy. 1962 * The Supreme Court of the United States rules the Family Values Act of 1954 is unconstitutional. 1963 * John F. Kennedy dismisses J. Edgar Hoover as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation after JFK blackmails him with information on Hoover's homosexuality obtained by members of the Human Rights Campaign. 1967 * The Pink Panther Party, a political party whose core values are gay rights, is founded. 1968 * Henry Gerber steps down from his role with the Society for Human Rights citing fatigue and wishing to work on his memoirs. * The leadership within the Society for Human Rights breaks down with a number of members wanting to change the direction of the organization. The Society for Human Rights splinters into small, disorganized groups. 1969 * The Stonewall riots take place in New York City. * Harry Hay finds the Gay Liberation Front in Los Angeles, the first organization to use the word "gay" in their name. 1976 * Harvey Milk is elected to the California State Assembly.
