| - Sarah Cushing was the middle of the three Cushing sisters. Her younger sister Mary was married to Jim Browner and they lived together in Liverpool. Sarah desired her brother-in-law and tried to seduce him, but when she understood that he was faithful to his wife, she began to turn Mary against him and later introduce her to Alec Fairbairn, who became her lover. After an argument with Jim Browner, Sarah moved from Liverpool to live with her older sister Susan in Croydon. Some time later Browner killed his wife and Fairbairn in a fit of rage and jealousy, cuff an ear from each of them and was planning to send them to Sarah to show her what misery she had caused. But unaware that Sarah had moved away and because the box was only adressed to 'S. Cushing', the ears ended with the older sister Susan, who was still living at the old address. When Sarah heard about the cardboard box with the ears, she got brain fever, most likely due to shock realizing what had happened and who the ears were intended for.
