| - STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! After a year living under the confinement of the dome, Stephanie Brown isn’t sure she wants to be Batgirl again. But when she’s attacked by Catman and Gorilla Grodd from the world of Flashpoint, she’s forced to put on the cape and cowl to fight alongside Red Robin and Cassandra Cain! Summary of Stephness: Steph, Cass, and Tim are stuck in their hero togs in a desert. Steph is internally monologuing about "the competition," and decides to answer nature's call. Tim and Cass discuss why Steph was chosen and they were not, and Cass says, "Because she is not predictable?" As she attempts to find her zipper, Catman attacks her. Steph fights him off, and Tim rushes up. Catman says he's fighting Grodd, and Steph rushes off, knowing Cass is in trouble with the huge gorilla. As Cass desperately evades Grodd's swings, Steph thinks back to the beginning of the force field over Gotham. As Batgirl, she faced people letting animals go from the zoo, which then killed them. Mirroring Cass, she strips off her Batgirl uniform and walks away. She has found a new life as a medical assistant, helping a young woman give birth and remembering her own baby. A masked villain stalks Steph and her fellow worker, but she stares him down - though the villain may also be deterred by Red Robin, who watches unknown to Steph. At home, Steph relaxes, and Cass comes in through the window, tired from patrol. Cass and Steph argue about eating their guinea pig and Steph's fear of Cass, but on the TV, Steph's name is announced as one of Gotham's champions to fight other cities in a Darwinian struggle to survive. Cass gives Steph back her uniform, which she has neglected to wash. Cass and Tim attempt to train Steph, but Steph is distracted by her own memories of the past - especially of her love for Tim. All three are then distracted by the force field coming down, and crowds of people trying to leave the city. The trio try to protect the citizens, but are grabbed by liquid metal substance and teleported to the desert where the story opened. Behind the Scenes: Steph and Cass are drawn here by Rick Leonardi, who many, many years before drew the two characters in Batgirl #54. This issue looks a lot more rushed, though it's possibly simply an art style shift caused by over a decade of work. Kwitney's friend Neil Gaiman tweeted congratulations at the publication of this issue.
