Amongst basic elemental natures two cycles of interaction exist. The first of these, the , defines which element can overcome another. This cycle is incredibly well throughout the world known and demonstrates properties such as water overcoming fire. Alternatively, there is a lesser known cycle of interactions, referred to as the , which defines which element generates another. This process should not be confused with the property of wind-natured chakra enhancing flames, but instead demonstrates an elemental nature creating another through their intrinsic properties. The interactions between the elements in this particular fashion allow the user of this technique to shift the nature transformation of a technique to the next component of the cycle.

| - Amongst basic elemental natures two cycles of interaction exist. The cycle proceeds in the following manner.
* Fire creates Earth, just as flames create ash.
* Earth creates Wind, due to the manner than the terrain can direct air flow.
* Wind creates Water, because rainclouds are brought in by air currents.
* Water creates Lightning, as rainstorms call forth lightning strikes.
* Lightning creates Fire, like the ability of lightning to spark fires. It should be noted that the shift in nature transformations used by this technique constitute a sudden alteration of chakra within the technique, rather than proceeding in the philosophical manner describing the cycle. Due to the fact that the chakra used in this technique is merely changing natures, skilled users are able to manipulate the mass of energy with minimal stamina expenditure after the initial technique activation, allowing the user to perform several elemental techniques in quick succession with the same chakra. Despite this, the energy within the cycle is not perfect and some energy is lost over time, preventing the user from manipulating the same chakra indefinitely. Additionally, controlling the chakra within the technique also requires some degree of energy, though far less than it would cost to independently create each component. As such, Tomoe is able to use this skill to string together several elemental techniques in quick succession, a feat that would normally be impossible for her age and stamina. It is for this reason that the Samsara of the Five Elements has become a staple of her fighting style, and the primary use of her Rinnegan.
