| - The Gallery Sara Guedj was born out of pure chance, when its founder Sara Guedj was having a walk with her friends, in January 2007. Young contemporary art « amateur » since her teen age thanks to the area she was living in, the new thirteen’s district, Sara Guedj had the ambition to become a gallerist for long time. During one of her regular walks on the « rue Louise Weiss », she found an empty locale. She started considering this challenge for her future life and threw herself into the adventure, which has been lasting for nearly a year now and starts bearing fruits. This gallery didn’t, at start, have any unifying thread, except its will to present the young contemporary art scene and pursue the impulse created by its neighbor galleries for the ten past years. Artists like Peter Dobey, Vlad & Alina or Amandine Lancelot are not even twenty-five years old. With time and experience, a central theme started to exist: the relation to volumes and geometry treated in a very contemporary way, with no nostalgia. The Archipaysages of Marine Pagès or the themes used in Leylagoor‘s and Ann Guillaume’s work, or even, Rory Macbeth and Marc Hamandjian can totally be looked at in this perspective. But this theme is supple. Sara Guedj leaves herself the freedom to follow her eye and her taste in whichever direction they decide to bring her. She doesn’t want to confine nor herself, nor her gallery, nor her artists into one « style ». On the international field, the gallery has « shown » herself in several fairs such as Slick Paris in 2007, Bridge Miami in 2007, or Show Off in Paris in 2008, and several of her artists are present in famous collections (public and private collections) such as the collection Han Nefkens, or exhibited in galleries which reputation is already important, such as the I8 gallery in Reykjavik, Air de Paris or Thaddeus Ropac in Paris, or art place of first importance such as the Tate or the Whitney. For its first year, the gallery Sara Guedj has known a continuous and very encouraging progression, with six shows, three fairs, several events, with a big media coverage (one of the achievements of the gallery is the « Monde 2 » cover in November) and a growing acceptance among professionals.
