| Synopsis
| - Conan and Bêlit arrive at the Temple of a Thousand Gods and find Red Sonja standing with sword in hand. Like Conan, she too is searching for the iron-bound Book of Skelos. She tells Conan of a Stygian named Karanthes who offered her riches to travel to Messanthia to retrieve the scroll. Bêlit and Sonja take an instant dislike to one another and the two begin fighting. Conan intervenes, but Red Sonja douses the torch light and runs down a dark corridor in search of the book. Conan and Bêlit try to track her, but Sonja masks her scent with the smell of the sewage waters that she had traveled through. Conan eventually comes upon his old traveling companion Tara who informs him that her lover Yusef is imprisoned inside the temple. Conan rescues Yusef, but in doing so, earns the attention of the guards. He kills several guards, but one of them shape-shifts into a Man-Tiger and fights with him. Their battle is tough, but Conan eventually manages to kill the creature. When he meets back up with Bêlit, he learns that Red Sonja has recovered a scroll from the Book of Skelos and has taken off. Conan vows to get even with her.
