John Hill was a young man who, with great nervousness, stood up and addressed a meeting of the Salvation Army in September 1970. Encouraged by Major Parrett, he told the congregation he had been traumatised by the recent death of his friend Skinner in a road accident. The same thing had happened to his mum and dad when he was ten. He asked what the reason for living was. The Major told him that God is the reason and God is love. John's words had resonated with audience member Lucille Hewitt as her mother, Lizzie had died when she was also ten years old and she decided that she wanted to do some good for people in the world.

  • Joe Morton was a regular on the Syfy 'sister show' ‘‘Eureka‘‘. Reverend John Hill is a man of such powerful faith that he dies happy, even though his death is not immediate, and potentially preventable. He knows where he's going next, and doesn't want anything disrupting that journey. When we first meet him in Regrets, he is the one loudly righteous man in a "den of thieves". Which is not to say that he himself has not been a thief, but he has unquestionably, unswervingly, seen the light. Pete and Myka are investigating a series of recent suicides at the prison, and the warden indicates that the Reverend is one of the shot-callers, one of the people you have to rub along with, if you're going to run this type of institution.
