At so early an age, he didn't have much of a choice and was shipped off to the distant planet anyway. Although the Mandalorians had been a hollow force in the galaxy for a long time, their traditions never disappeared. Clans had come together to form unbeatable armies of mercenaries. However, they were also suffering from a civil war waged between the "True Mandalorians" and a splinter group, the "Death Watch". En route to Mandalore, Ran's transport was forced out of hyperspace and ambushed by Death Watch mercenaries. They plundered the ship and brutally executed everyone aboard. Ran, only a child, was able to slip by them and stow himself on their own ship. Karma hit the Death Watch group when they, too, were forced from hyperspace and attacked by Jaster Mereel himself. As the True Mandalorians mopped up, a young Jango Fett discovered and befriended Ran. He would later be accepted into Mereel's unit and fought with them against Vizsla's Death Watch.
