The Common-wealth of Oceana was a work by James Harrington published in 1656. Walter Donovan owned a first edition which he kept in the library of his Venetian apartment. While looking through the library in 1938, Indiana Jones read a description of Venice as a tranquil place and contrasted it with his own experience of the city in Fascist Italy.
