The Farlander Papers is a companion book found only in the "Limited Edition" version of X-Wing game (the original floppy disk based release) written by Rusel DeMaria. The book contained a short story about Keyan Farlander's assignment in the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In some points the narration breaks when Keyan opens a Rebel pamphlet which contained "A Call to Reason", spec sheets for the various spacecraft in the game, a "who's who" for the races and characters of the galaxy and much more. When he finishes reading, the narrative continues to Farlander's first mission.

When he finishes reading, the narrative continues to Farlander's first mission. It serves as a scene-setter and provides helpful information for playing the game. The "Limited Edition" versions are identifiable only by a small round sticker on the front of the box. Much of the story was later included and expanded as part of X-Wing: The Official Strategy Guide, though it was largely rewritten and some parts of the story were left out in order to maintain The Farlander Papers status as a collector's item.
