Rules are supposed to help improve the Wiki in most cases, but if you feel they aren't doing their jobs in a particular case, you can go against them. This should not be done without a good reason and a consensus. Particularly, some editors tend to follow a policy simply because it is a policy, not because it makes more sense in a particular case. Remember that all rules are really just generalised guidelines, and you don't have to follow them all the time if you really think it isn't improving the wiki.
