As time passed, the need for a secondary base became evident, and the Lux Lucis was upgraded to have larger banks of turbolasers and cannons. It hence was upgraded in this way until it became a 12,000 meter long station, able to withstand near any attack. After its function as a rendezvous following the Mission to Cloud City, the Lucis was further developed as a main base. However, discussions in higher chambers led to the conclusion that in a protracted conflict, the base would be indefensible and more of a bane than a boon in such situations. Nonetheless, it was adapted as a secret hideout. Its main tour of duty was during the Grand Marshal Crisis, where Alliance forces regrouped after a lightning-fast series of conquests by the eponymous Grand Marshal, in 7 ABY. However, it was discovered by Imperial forces, causing a massive battle. In that, the Republic won a Pyrrhic victory; the base was saved, though at the cost of everyone knowing where it was. After the Marshal Crisis had collapsed, the Lux Lucis was scuttled to construct cruisers and other space stations.
