Ludia has a total land area of 466 square kilometres, making it the 196th largest country in the world. The nation also has a population of 224,630 as of 2015, making it the world's 190th most populous sovereign state. Ludia was originally inhabited by Negrito peoples from the Philippines around 3000 years ago, although the population was largely replaced by migrants from the Sunda islands sometime in the twelfth century. Captain James Lude arrived in 1631, who named and claimed the islands for England. Ludia was formally recognized as a part of the British Empire in 1714 following the War of the Spanish Succession. The British would only mildly colonise the islands at first, leaving most of the natives autonomous until 1807, when most of the land was purchased by the Lude family, who developed a large portion of it into pineapple, banana, spice, and sugar plantations. In 1898, the Spanish stopped sponsoring infrequent raids on the islands, and in 1917 the Japanese offered to purchase the islands from the United Kingdom.
