  • Captain Star
  • Captain Star (full Captain James Star) is the most prominent character in the whole series, due to the fact that he narrates it, doing so in the past tense, and in a way makes it clear that he is no longer at the helm of the fleet, and since the 1920s he has retired. It is unknown whether he is looking back from the actual time the program was released, in the late eighties, or before, neither is it known who he is recounting his memories to. He narrates all thirteen episodes. Captain Star's character reflects that of Sir Topham Hatt from the sister series, as the owner and the leader.
  • Captain Jim Star is the main protagonist of the ITV 1997-1998 animated science fiction series Captain Star. He was voiced by Richard E. Grant. He is a legendary explorer who has hundreds of planets named after him. Star along with his crew: First Officer Scarlett, nine headed engineer Atomic Engine Stoker "Limbs" Jones and fish keeping Navigator Black on the orders of Mission Control go in their ship The Boiling Hell go to a nameless planet at The Ragged Edge of the Universe and await further orders from Mission Control, which never come.
  • It is unknown whether he is looking back from the actual time the programme was released, in the late 80s, or before, neither is it known who he is recounting his memories to. He narrates all thirteen episodes. He is quite obviously a veteran sailor, and owns and cares for the Star Fleet. He always appears as a loudhailer in the window of the Star Dock building. He takes great pride in his fleet, but he knows that it is important to be hard on them in order to succeed. He is usually very strict if something does not go as shipshape as it is supposed to.
  • A quirky Anglo-Canadian cartoon parody of Star Trek that ran for only 13 episodes. Captain Star's mission is to visit exotic planets, name them after himself, and sell stuff. However his superiors have stuck him on a nameless planet at the ragged edge of the universe where he naively waits for his next orders, his ego oblivious to the implications that he has been Kicked Upstairs.

However his superiors have stuck him on a nameless planet at the ragged edge of the universe where he naively waits for his next orders, his ego oblivious to the implications that he has been Kicked Upstairs. The actual work is done by his second in command Dana Scully-Ersatz (just look at that hair), Only Sane Woman First Officer Scarlette. She is sort of helped by the multi-limbed, multi-headed engineer "Limbs" Jones and navigator Black, a fish-obsessed cook.

Star is regarded as the greatest captain in the fleet and attended the Captain's Acadamy until age 12 where he then spent a year as a trainee under Captain Ned Nova of the Merry Cheeser who had named 115 planets named after him until Star surpassed him.

He has seven tugs and one unnumbered submarine (from Regatta onwards), within his fleet. They are as follows: Ten Cents (1), Big Mac (2), O.J. (3), Top Hat (4), Warrior (5), Hercules (6), Sunshine (7) and Grampus. Like other characters such as Captain Zero, the Quarry Master, the Garbage Corporation, and the Fuel Depot, Captain Star is never seen as a person and is only represented with his megaphone.
