The RAR (Reverse Aerial Rush), is a technique originated in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which allows players to attack an opponent with their Back Aerial Attack while rushing them. It returns in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The main purpose of this technique is to allow characters to use their Back Aerials in front of them, since many characters' Back Aerials are faster and more powerful compared to their Forward Aerials. Characters like Falco, whose Forward Aerial is not so useful and very ineffective to KO, greatly benefit from RAR.

  • A RAR is performed by dashing, pressing the opposite direction while running (after the initial dash) and then jumping during the turning around animation. Either a short hop or full hop can be inputted and the character is free to perform any aerial action afterwards. How fast a character can perform the technique from a standing position is both dependent on how long their initial dash lasts (less dashing frames the sooner the running animation starts) and the speed of their jump.

How fast a character can perform the technique from a standing position is both dependent on how long their initial dash lasts (less dashing frames the sooner the running animation starts) and the speed of their jump. The length the character travels through the air is dependent on their running speed and how much momentum they keep during the turn around.
